The Adelaide University approached Sandpit to create a vibrant activation in the centre of the City to coincide with the 2017 Adelaide Fringe Festival. Competing with other interactive works, the project was to attract night time festival-goers.
Idzard Kwadijk was hired as TouchDesigner consultant during the development phase.
Together we made the main 22 metre fence in front of Adelaide University come alive during the Adelaide Fringe. As spectators approach the wall, multiple Kinect motion cameras in the trees detect their presence to light their way as they walk by. The LED bars on the fence act as a canvas for many variations of video, virtual shadows, animation and colour. The Kinect motion sensors are able to track any user movement or gesture, and translate that into an interaction with the installation. And of course the system is programmed to create a subtle lightshow even when no one is interacting with it.
